Watch this year's video from Good Morning Texas.

In 2007, on Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, more than 1200 North Texans braved icy weather to gather together in about 120+ locations to break bread and break down racial barriers at the Dallas Dinner Table.

Beginning in 2008, registration will open on Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, January 21, 2008 and will be held to commemorate March 21st the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (resolution 2142 (XXI). Due to the Easter Holiday this year’s Dallas Dinner Table will be March 19th 2008.

The thing that really sticks with me from that night's dinner was:

  • How alike we are in rich experiences, good & bad
  • It was interesting to hear about other people’s experiences.
  • The openness and sharing of experiences and opinions.
  • How everyone is so polite on something like racism, I guess it must [be] the format.
  • People are really more similar than we are different.
  • People genuinely want to respect & understand others who are not like them.
  • How non-judgmental & respectful everyone was to each others’ opinions.
  • The frankness that everyone displayed - even discussing painful events.
  • Openness of participants; genuine caring; willing to look at ourselves.
  • Race is still an issue, but not one that cannot be discussed in a rational & civilized manner.
