Improving Race Relations...One Dinner at a Time

Click on the link and watch the clip for Dallas Dinner Table. This ran on CBS Channel 11 Monday morning, the day of our event. The event itself was last night, Martin Luther King Day, and Beverly Wright, our Chairman, hosted 4 tables at the IBM Dallas Sales Center. Overall, we had over 1100 seats at various venues across the Metroplex.

For those of you that are local and could not participate this year, please consider it for next year. You can add your name to our mailing now to make sure you are included for next year. (See the Yellow Box to your left.) We had fabulous support from IBM and many other corporations, churches and schools this year. The conversation continues. Thanks to Kirk and Jane for their participation.

The Dallas Dinner Table is an independent, non-profit organization focused on improving race relations in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex…one dinner at a time.

Last year's event, the 2006 Dallas Dinner Table was also a joyous success!! If you would like to see some pictures and comments from that particular event, just click HERE or the picture on the left!

The 2007 Dallas Dinner Table promises to be even better. We're doing things a bit differently this time around, the registration process will provide a choice of venues at the time of registration and the registration process will be streamlined for our returning alumni.  After registration participants will receive and e-mail confirmation and periodic e-mail reminders with host details.

Registration for 2008's event will close on Sunday, January 13th, 2008.

However, do not miss out on next year's venue. Look to the yellow box to your left.

In 2006, on Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, more than 750 North Texans gathered together in about 70+ locations to break bread and break down racial barriers during the 2006 Dallas Dinner Table.

Among those who participated, 97% rated their experience as very good or excellent. Sample feedback included the following comments:

The thing that really sticks with me from that night's dinner was:

  • How alike we are in rich experiences, good & bad
  • It was interesting to hear about other people’s experiences.
  • The openness and sharing of experiences and opinions.
  • How everyone is so polite on something like racism, I guess it must [be] the format.
  • People are really more similar than we are different.
  • People genuinely want to respect & understand others who are not like them.
  • How non-judgmental & respectful everyone was to others’ opinions.
  • The frankness that everyone displayed - even discussing painful events.
  • Openness of participants; genuine caring; willing to look at ourselves.
  • Race is still an issue, but not one that cannot be discussed in a rational & civilized manner.
